Andromeda Lansing is a successful editor. She has a brief romantic interlude with a handsome psychiatrist named Evan Carmichael.
A few weeks after her passionate meeting with Evan, Andromeda discovers that she is pregnant. She decides to raise the baby alone and does not inform Evan of her pregnancy.
Evan finds about Andromeda's pregnancy. He confronts Andromeda and demands to be a part of her life.

Andromeda feels ostracized by her mother and friends. She is also frightened by the intensity of Evan's relentless pursuit of her. After Andromeda suffers a debilitating medical episode, she leaves the state without telling her family or friends of her destination.
Evan finds Andromeda.

In his obsessive mind, Evan decides that Andromeda and his child will be a permanent part of his life whether she wants to or not.
