I don't think you can immerse yourself in the story, if you join the characters half way through their adventures.
And in Nexus Revelations:
Following a conviction for sexual assault on his (then) disabled daughter Michelle, Howard is jailed for five years. An administrative error, has him released four years too early and, revenge and sex on his mind, he heads back to Ottawa.
Michelle and Alex get married and later travel to the 17th Century, where Alex is thrown in jail.
In 1739 Ireland, Michelle, trying to be helpful, creates an opportunity for a paradox.
More is revealed about the power and influence of Nexus, the nanites occupying Michelle, who is kidnapped by a rogue group determined to assimilate them for their knowledge.
