Jack Peregrin, a man who could trace his ancestry back to a warrior who rode with Sitting Bull against Custer, was driving too fast when he is pulled over by a Highway Patrol Officer. The officer is Abigail Saunders and while she is checking his credentials, Jack suddenly slumps over the steering wheel in an apparent heart attack. He later recovers in a hospital and is visited by the same officer, who now learns that Jack is an agent with a clandestine operation whose operatives are sent all over the world to root out evil by any means necessary, while giving the government deniability.
Against her better judgement, Abigail falls in love with Jack and this places her on the road to heartache and worry, because she can never know where in the world Jack is or what dangers he is facing. On one of his missions Jack is severely wounded. Abigail nurses him back to health but she is conflicted about a future with him because of the uncertainties in his life. She tries to run away from the relationship but fails. Jack is also in love with Abigail but the elephant in the room is his life on the edge. Only he can find a solution to this dilemma.
