Approximately 15 million years ago there was a rain of meteorites in the world. The rain was caused by a rare glass of an intense, usually translucent green hue. This crystal is called Moldavite. Its name comes from the Valley of the river Moldova to the North of Prague (Czech Republic), where were the first samples classified. As a relatively new phenomenon for the scientific community, this strange green stone was mentioned for the first time in scientific literature in 1787 by Josef Mayer of the Charles University in Prague, while the German name Moldavite was first used by Dr. Franz Xaver Maximilian Lippe in 1836.
