Melton is a boring 22 year old college student in his final semester of college at Boise State University, and feels as if life is passing him by. However, one fateful night this all changes when Melton suffers a vicious beating at the hands of three ruthless thugs. When he wakes up in his own bed the next morning he is nearly incapacitated, and lies bedridden for two days before finally making an attempt to move. He soon realizes over these following days that something is not quite right, given that he has not seen another human being since his attack. As he recovers in the subsequent weeks and ventures into public his confusion grows, as everything is empty, and everyone is gone. Cars are abandoned in the streets, homes and businesses void of people, employees, or customers. Melton realizes that he might in fact be the last living person on earth. After moving back home to the North Idaho wilderness, he now must figure out how to survive on his own, as well as clinging to his sanity in the deepest depths of loneliness.
