Based on true experiences, the author begins his story as an outgoing young boy who develops a stutter in the third grade after a Catholic nun physically attacks him by surprise for talking in class. The act was cruel and violent, but back in the 1950’s, teachers had free reign on disciplinary matters while parents looked the other way. Some parents thought it an advantage for their children to be educated in a Catholic school, but for this young boy it was an experience that scarred him for life.

The author also reveals how he compensates for his stutter in various ways which helps him live a productive life in spite of his handicap. He gives a rendition of Catholicism and a portrayal of a nun’s life with humor and sarcasm.
