EXCERPT:
“May I ask you a question about Andy, the foreigner you were with when you saw me a few nights ago?” Jasmin asked with a steady, composed voice.

“Oh wow!” Melissa exclaimed with big eyes. “You like him?” Jasmin felt herself blushing as she lowered her head in embarrassment. “Don’t feel shy, he’s a nice customer. He was very kind to me when we were together in his room. He tips big, too.” Melissa revealed openly. Although Jasmin wanted to know, she was also much too embarrassed to ask Melissa about the romantic details of her night with Andy. “So what do you want to know about him?”

“Well, is he someone special to you? I mean, is he like a boyfriend?” Jasmin inquired awkwardly.

“Oh no,” Melissa replied with a smile. “It’s nothing like that. He’s just a customer. I take his barfine the one time only, and Beverly took it the night before. He’s just a butterfly. All of his friends are the same, too.” Melissa divulged easily. “Girl to girl, Sis, why do you ask? Do you like him?”

“Well, yes, to be honest. I kind of do, I guess.” Jasmin confessed hesitantly. “Does he come here often?”

“Mmmmm….before, yes.” Melissa explained. But I haven’t seen him here since he took me out a few nights ago. Not even his three friends.”
“Oh, I see,” Jasmin said with disappointment at the unfortunate news.

“I don’t think he’s leaving Cebu until the end of the week. So maybe he will come here again.” Melissa added. “What is today, Tuesday?”

“Is he leaving the Philippines?” Jasmin inquired.

“No, I think only to Moalboal for a week or two.” Melissa replied. “That’s what he told me in the morning when he barfined me. He plans to come back to Cebu before returning to the U.S.”

“So he’s American?” Jasmin asked with a spark of excitement.

“Yes, he’s a writer. He lives in California. He and his friends are all taking a long vacation here in the Philippines.” Melissa shared openly.

“If he comes here again, I would really like to meet him.” Jasmin said, making no secret of her insatiable interest in Andy.

“Damn,” Melissa said a bit coarsely. “You really have a crush on him.”

“I really like him,” Jasmin confessed shamelessly. “He has such beautiful blue eyes and that nice smile.”

“Yes, he does,” Melissa agreed with a smile and lift of her eyebrows. “So what will you say to him when you meet him? What will you do if he pays your barfine?”

“Oh my God…” Jasmin uttered with a gasp as she covered her mouth like a little schoolgirl. “I can’t imagine…”

“Look at you, you’re like a little provincial girl.” Melissa bluntly criticized her young, naïve protégé. “You’ve never been with a man before, have you?” Jasmin didn’t answer. She didn’t have to. Melissa already knew the answer to her own question.

At that moment a familiar group of four men casually sauntered into the bar, much to the elation of Ma’am Laura and many of the other ladies, who cheered boisterously at their entrance.

“Oh my God, it’s Andy!”
