Love and Danger in the Old West

Love and Danger in the Old West is stories of legendary characters and the women who loved them. The stories begin with the confrontation between Wild Bill Hickok and Davis Tutt. These two men clashed over a watch taken from Hickok because of an unpaid debt. However, this deadly confrontation had competition for Susannah Moore as the underlying issue between the two men.

Allie Earp was the common law wife of Virgil Earp for thirty-one years. Virgil and the three deputies he led fought in the old west’s most famous gunfight near Tombstone’s O.K. Corral. Allie lived with the fear of losing her husband in the violent world in which they lived.

Louisa “Lou” Houston and Morgan Earp fell madly in love with one another. They were married in Dodge City, Kansas where Morgan worked as a deputy city marshal. Their brief marriage ended in tragedy forever ending Lou’s hopes and dreams.

Martha Eccles Bullock married Seth Bullock, the sheriff of Deadwood. He was a town tamer bringing order to a wild mining boomtown. Martha Bullock was active in her community including heading a women’s literary group. She was a person of high moral character and integrity.

Wild Bill Hickok was a married man when the cowardly Jack McCall shot and killed him in Deadwood, South Dakota. Her name was Agnes Lake Hickok and her union with Hickok was widely known. Before this marriage, there was another. Hickok and a famous woman kept his first marriage and fatherhood a secret.

Mary Catherine Horony known as “Big Nose Kate” was a prostitute and madam, Holliday gave up a dental practice because of tuberculosis and became a gambler. He was alcoholic and homicidal. Kate was stubborn, fearless and had a bad temper. Together they were truly sparring partners.

Glendolene Kimmell moved to Laramie County, Wyoming to teach. She would meet a man who met her expectations of a real frontier man. The man was Tom Horn a hit man working for wealthy ranchers. When he is charged with murdering a boy she works to save him.

Wyatt and James Earp moved to Wichita, Kansas in early 1874 with their prostitute common law wives. These women became co-madams of a brothel protected by police officer Wyatt Earp.
