President Lincoln’s Cottage is a home for brave ideas, not only because of what Lincoln accomplished within the walls, but because of the conversations that happen there every day. On April 10, 2015, the Cottage was proud to host the first annual Lincoln Ideas Forum, the first in a series of events hosted to commemorate the 150 anniversary of Lincoln’s last visit to the Cottage and his assassination the next day. The Forum featured groundbreaking discussions, with experts from a variety of disciplines, on the intersection of Lincoln’s life and legacy with contemporary issues. Adam Goodheart, the Hodson Trust-Griswold Director of the C.V. Starr Center for the Study of the American Experience at Washington College served as moderator for the Forum, and Jason Silverman, of Winthrop University, Bradley Miles of Polaris, Brian Dixon of the Department of State, and Milton Shinberg of Shinberg.Levinas, offered poignant observations on the relevance of Lincoln’s life and legacy today. The goal of their remarks is to create a desire to explore how Lincoln’s life continues to impact our world today and what our obligations are to take up his unfinished work.
