Abraham grew into a strong young man and moved to New Salem. There he fell in with a group of thugs. Lincoln became friends with their leader and stayed in his home for weeks at a time. Lincoln impregnated his wife. That baby grew up to be a thug and murdered a man. Lincoln, now a lawyer, took his case and manufactured false evidence to get his son off.

Later, Lincoln became involved with a woman named Mary Todd. She managed to get Abraham to propose to her even though he was infatuated with Matilda Edwards. When it came time for the marriage ceremony, Lincoln didn’t show. Mary was furious and she plotted to have Lincoln killed. When she didn’t succeed in having him killed, she managed to get him to propose marriage a second time.
