A romance from Lori L. Lake, winner of the Ann Bannon Award
Kennie McClain is a security guard who, unbeknownst to her tenants, owns the Allen Arms where she works. She's still recovering from the loss of her partner three years earlier and has moved from upstate New York to Portland to escape bad memories. In her off hours, she rehabs apartments and nurses a broken heart.
Lily Gordon, a nationally-acclaimed painter, lives in the Allen Arms penthouse. She's beautiful and accomplished - and haunted after her lover ditches her.
Sparks fly in a big way when Kennie and Lily finally connect . . . but then in one shattering moment, Lily betrays her, and Kennie's world comes crashing down, leaving her untrusting and in deep emotional pain. Can Kennie ever rise above these losses and risk her heart again?
~Terry Baker at Terry Baker's LesFic Reviews~
Another winning book for Lori Lake... A story of love that showed me that blood family isn't always as important as the family you choose for yourself.
~Victor Banis, author of over 150 LGBT works~
Once again Lori Lake tells a story from the heart, in masterful prose, about people we get to know and care about. Kennie and Lily and Max are all fully dimensional, as are all the supporting characters - so their emotional turmoil becomes real to the reader - always the trademark of a first rate author. I found my heart breaking with Kennie's, and a part of me actually hoped she and Lily would somehow work it all out. Lots of tears with this one, but laughs too - an engaging read from a master of her craft.
