The very best strategy to prepare for any emergency situation, whether a man-made tragedy or a natural disaster, is to plan for it. Yes, planning for a calamity to happen can be somewhat dismaying as you are conjuring up ideas of it. However, it is the only way you can fully be prepared for it when it does happen.

First of all, you will need to put together a family disaster plan. No matter what form a disaster strikes or wherever it strikes, whether at home or in the workplace, this plan will involve all of the necessary actions each one will need to do in the event of an emergency. Each member should be trained to do CPR. Children must be taught how to call 911. Everyone must be trained to handle a fire extinguisher.

Another thing to prepare for is to plan for the survival kit and emergency supplies. Store up on the necessities. A supply of water should be kept on-hand at all times. Store water supply in non-breakable bottles so you can easily carry them or haul them up in case there is a need to evacuate. Store up on food that does not require any cooking, canned goods and packaged items are the most convenient. Organize the emergency kit in a waterproof bag with batteries, flashlights, extra clothing, etc. Also keep a supply of vital medications and the basics of a first-aid kit.

Preparing for a disaster is a responsible thing to do. When you have a mental idea of what to expect, you worry less and fear less about your safety and of others you are responsible for.
