Last Flight of the Goose

De Groot was a master at landing amphibian aircraft on water, bringing the plane down with a slight bounce as the hull touched the water. Typical of geese, the metal bird was at home in the air, graceful and beautiful in flight but waddled in the water. A single flight, it was the beginning of an adventurous and harrowing escape from China to Australia during war time in 1942
