James Baldwin (1841-1925) was an American editor and author. Gained the world popularity as one of the most prolific authors of school books for children at the end of the last century and the beginning of this. Became famous and widely published textbook editor and children's author in the subjects of legends, mythology, biography, and literary, among others. “King Alfred and the Beggar” is an amazing short story about kindness and generosity of driven king Alfred and to a ragged beggar. King, his wife and their servant lived on a lonely island in a river where one could get only by a boat. About noon a ragged beggar came to the king and asked for food. Without any doubt the king gave him last of his food and beggar disappeared. At night the king saw the great light and in the centre of it was an old man holding an open book in his hands. It was that beggar, but who he was in real you will know at the end of the this awesome story.
