James Mill made essential contributions to social theory, political theory and political economy as a Scottish historian, economist, political theorist, and philosopher. He was a founder of classical economics along with David Ricardo and his son John Stuart Mill. James Mill published his influential History of British India in 1818 that contains a complete denunciation and rejection of Indian culture and civilisation.

In 1835, James Mill published one of his most important works, The State of the Nation through London and Westminster Review founded by Jeremy Bentham.  He wrote the essay after the success of the Reform Act of 1832 that the middle class could vote as it was hoped for the Members of Parliament in the United Kingdom.  James Mill saw the positive trend of reform that was happening across Britain. However he was also concern of the continuing strength of its opponents of conservatives. He argued “They who had an interest in keeping bad things as they were, behaved in the same way then as they do now. They represented themselves as Conservatives, and those who desired removal of the bad things, Destructives. And conservative they were, but of what things?—the bad. The others were destructive, no doubt, but of those things only which it was good to destroy.”

The same situation exists in China today as in Britain of 1832 after China became the second power house by GDP. The China Model and the China Specialized Socialism are toppling if they are not conducting a drastic reform for the existing political and economic structure based on a centralized government that is controlling all the resources in China.

The essay is James Mill’s most influential contributions to social and political thoughts for the political reform in Britain. It is one of the most widely read of all books on economic theory in the world as Principles of Economics by Alfred Marshall and On the Principles of Political Economy by John Stuart Mill.

Using his writings, James Mill became one of the greatest minds who helped build the foundation of a new form of democratic society in human history that is prevailing and failing communism and socialism around the world.

James Mill is known as one of the founders of economics. The Essay is already read more than a hundred years and it will still be read for another century due to its truths.

This is a must-read book for people who are interested in the deepest thoughts about the economic and political reform by James Mill, one of the greatest thinkers on the planet.
