A huge patch of land by the river, surrounded by trees and with a price that’s practically a steal? It was a no-brainer, an offer that Jim Miller could not refuse. A trucker by trade and a father of two, renting out an apartment no longer suited his family’s needs. He jumped at the opportunity. With the help of his wife, Susan, the couple secured a loan that not only got them the land but also a house.
Situated by Red River in Burkburnett, Texas. It is everything a family can ask for - peaceful and not too far from the center of the city. The two-storey house that they have built after securing the necessary financing fit perfectly with the surroundings.
Wooded areas shielded them from the outside and if they fancied a dip, the river at the back was always available. With school still out the family had more than enough time to get acquainted with their new surroundings. It was literally the beginning of the family of four.
Then it began. Just a day after their official housewarming party things started to happen - shadows going against the light, images in the periphery of their vision, voices that mimicked theirs, waking nightmares, and dreadful dreams. One of the daughters fell sick while the youngest seemed to be conversing with an imaginary friend.
As if it wasn’t enough, Jim and Susan discover tracks outside their house and dead animals carefully placed on the stone steps just outside their backdoor.
The events never wane. As the hours pass its frequency increases. The dream house had become a living nightmare.

The voices died down abruptly. So did the lights. The room was bathed in darkness. In a few moments the light struggled to come back on. It flickered slowly then built up in frequency. It felt like they were blinking their eyes rapidly, except they weren’t.
Sue screamed a horrifying scream.
As the bulb flickered, the room was alternately bathed in light and darkness. She saw in front of her the old, hideous woman with the dark eyes. Every time the light flickered on, the entity seemed to be coming for her—one step at a time, one flicker at a time.
Jim wheeled around to see what had made his wife scream. His skin was crawling with goosebumps. He was close to desperation. He could see where his wife’s gaze was directed but there was nothing there!
He ran to her side and when he reached her, the lights stayed on for good. Susan held on to her husband, crying and shaking. The children slept through it all. For the couple, of course, sleeping was no longer possible.
