The British-Asian population accounts for more than 7.5% of the population of Britain, or more than 5 million people. A number of books have been published on aspects of this culture, on music, sport, and business, but no book has yet looked at this experience in its totality. This book will attempt to do this in an accessible way, by combining 15 feature-pieces based on individuals who represent the various aspects of British-Asian culture, ranging in age from oldest to youngest, and culminating with a piece on a new-born child of a British Asian mother and an English father, in this case the child of the author. The pieces will be extended versions of the feature articles that the author writes for The Guardian, drawing out the color and relevance of the subject in each piece, in a clear, lyrical, and engaging style.
