Introduction

Stressed out, because you are suffering from work-related tension, and just the idea of getting to the office with that particular specimen sitting right next to you in your workstation is your idea of Purgatory?

Believe me; this problem is more common than what you would think. All of us, who have worked in offices, sometime or the other in our lives have come across this sort of stress and tension, especially when we know that the reason why we do not want to go to the office, so eagerly in the morning is because there is one particular specimen, there, who loves making our life miserable, think of duty instead of a thing of beauty and a joy forever.

This is the reason why we end up suffering from stress and tension. We get our incipient ulcers. And it is possible we begin looking at the help-wanted column for another job, which is possibly what he has been aiming for. Because he wanted this job for his girlfriend’s totally clueless and lazy lump of a cousin, and he wants to gain brownie points with her.

If you are in this particular group, after having done this test, this book is for how you are going to manage your own stress and strain levels, while making your atmosphere more bearable.

Is there anybody next to your room and cubicle, who persists on speaking loudly, has a horrible laugh, keeps making lewd comments and cracks, to you, because he thinks them so hilarious, or, even worse, has got worse, because you are a female, and you are doing a man’s job, according to him. And you need to be shown how to take it.

Do you have one particular parasite in the office, who gives all her work to you, under the excuse of that she is senior to you, or could you please help out, because she is behind in the days work [doing her nails, checking her mail, skyping her friends on her social network board, checking her face for any wrinkles, and complaining to you and so on]?

Then there is the boss, who does not think his daily work done, without calling an employee to his cabin, and yelling at him, to show him and the rest of the office that he is the boss.

Been there, seen that ad nauseam.

And of course, I speak from experience, because since I began working in 1989, fresh out of college, and in jobs, all over the globe, I have had a multitude of such coworkers and such bosses whose main job was to take the credit for my hard work, push all their extra files onto me, and of course, that boss straight from heaven, who came to the office, after lunch and with the previous days’ hangover. That job was a humdinger!

But I learned slowly and steadily, that every job would have one of these creatures present there, you cannot get past them. And it is your job to make sure that you manage to survive, to get your paycheck, without getting incipient ulcers and suffering from a nervous breakdown. It just takes a little bit of nerve.

The problem with having a bad team member or coworker in your department means that the whole department is going to suffer because he or she is definitely not pulling their weight. However, they have an extremely persuasive line in impressing the supervisors that they have been busy throughout the day, and the rest of the team are slackers. And it is surprising how they managed to get away with this bovine ordure the majority of the time.
