I’ve moved more times than I can remember but the two times I moved while living in New Zealand were the most stressful. We had lived in the first house for over ten years which was the longest I’d ever lived anywhere, the outside areas were in a dreadful state, so having to get a house ready for sale in three weeks was a huge task. We’d found a house we wanted to buy but had to sell ours first.

The second time was even more stressful, even traumatic. My husband and I had parted, and I had to get the house ready for sale. I wanted to get back to Ireland by Christmas (it was October) so there was a mad dash to get everything done. The only way I could do it was systematically and that led to the birth of this book.

If you've got a big job to do, you need a plan. Getting your house ready for sale is a big job, and this book is your plan.
This guide will take you step-by-step through your home over 30 days and you will end up with a house any buyer will desire. More importantly, a house that’s sparkling, tidy and in great condition is always going to achieve a better monetary outcome than its tired and dull neighbor.

Money you spend will be recouped in the sale price but unless you have some serious issues with your roof, electrical wiring or your foundations are falling in, this plan is not going to cost much money at all. The only thing you will need in abundance is elbow grease (i.e. strenuous physical exertion).

So, block out 30 days in your calendar because you’re going to be entirely focused on getting your old house ready to become someone's new house.
