This narrative is not about combat; it is about the space in time occupied by Marines between explosions in the time of battle. There is a lot of space in the life of a Marine that does not actually include bullet dodging, but this expanse of time could be just as tense and dangerous. Although when a Marine is on active duty, he or she must be ready at all times for any actualities. The events exemplified here took place in the closing days of the Korean Police Action when a shaky truce prevailed.
