For Gentleman Jack - Anne Lister - 1817 is the end of many things and the start of the rest of her life. She has to come to terms with betrayal and death as she begins her adult life. Important decisions have to be made. Her true love is gone forever; she knows she is an 'oddity'; and she has no money. So she returns to live quietly with her aunt and uncle at Shibden Hall. The secret code in her joural tells of unexpected events to come.

Anne Lister (1791-1840) lived in Halifax, Yorkshire, England and grew up feeling more like a man than a woman. From the age of 15 she wrote about letters and parcels sent and received from her first love. By 1817 her second love had left her and she began to use her journals to organise her life.
