Few people today know how to grow the fruits and vegetables they eat. Even fewer understand the importance of growing them organically. Many of those who do appreciate the value of organic produce are dissuaded from pursuing an organic garden because of the exorbitant cost of commercial organic fertilizers. Dr. Merrill points out that organic gardening does not have to be an expensive undertaking; rather, anyone can garden the organic way at little or no expense simply by generating valuable earthworm castings from their kitchen and paper waste and by taking advantage of animal manures that are available at no cost in most areas of the United States. This book tells you where to find these valuable organic resources and, more importunely, how to use them in your wonderful organic garden. The book is full of additional gardening information, including watering techniques, the correct way to plant seeds, and methods to control pests and insects without using toxic sprays and poisons. Happy gardening!
