Marine Sergeant Margaret Bloom soon learned that to say no to a Colonel or a Lieutenant or a shape-shifter could only lead to trouble, deep trouble.

Margaret Bloom was a scientist and by joining the US Space Marine Corp. she got to work with a brilliant professor who could help her develop a weapon that would fire with the order from the mind and not a trigger finger.

She was shocked when she was pulled off Earth to go to a far away destination in in space to be part of a troop to examine a deserted ship built by aliens.

No argument that she presented could convince any superiors that she was not meant for field work. Worse of all, one of the men that was assigned to board the deserted ship was from the planet Veld.

Veld and Earth had been co-operating friends fighting together against a greedy enemy call Trios. For Margaret, the problem was the man from Veld was a shape-shifter and as a scientist she had a deep bias against such a man or beast.
