Graduate students Dave Linders and Craig Cree set out on a scientific diving expedition to collect a new species of fish known to occur off an island just off the Loreto, Baja California coastline in the Sea of Cortez. On their way down the peninsula, they befriend the vacationing Hardin family and their two children Emma and Jacob and chocolate Lab, CB. Their good deed turns out to their advantage later during the trip. While in Loreto, the two studemts meet world renowned fish expert Professor Thompens and the three agree to work together to collect the fish. Their plans directly interfere with previous arrangements made by the devious Rashid who wants to be the first to collect the fish and showcase the new species in his country’s fledging museum. He is prepared to collect the fish at all costs. While Dave and Craig are collecting the fish, the dive is interrupted by a rogue squid that attacks the divers. During the ensuing chaos, one of the divers does not return to the diving vessel and is believed lost. Learning of the disaster, the Hardin teens, Emma and Jacob, join their newfound friend Eloy to try and locate the lost diver based on a hunch. As part of their rescue attempt, they also watch Rashid steal the precious fish specimens from Dave and Craig’s campsite. An intense search for Rashid begins and a final encounter with him and his accomplice occurs under the most unusual circumstances.
