Fiona had grown up bright but poor, and circumstances had not been kind to the somewhat nerdy young woman. Working in a used book store, she dreamed of better things. Those better things arrived quite unexpectedly in the person of Nick, a good-natured older man who lived, as it happened, just around the corner, in a home Fiona came to think of as a palace.
