Eveline

James Augustine Aloysius Joyce is a marvelous Irish novelist and poet, considered to be one of the most influential writers in the modernist avant-garde of the early 20th century. He became well known in the literature world by means of his wonderful short stories Dubliners (1914), the novels "A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" (1916), "Finnegans Wake" (1939). In this list can be added books of poetry, a play, occasional journalism, and his published letters. "Eveline" by James Joyce is a story about young woman who longs to escape from the tyranny of her father and from the responsibilities of surrogate motherhood, thrust on her after the death of her own mother. When she is offered an avenue of escape, she discovers that she lacks the spirit, the courage, and the strength of character to take it. The end of the story may show a lot of people in our difficult and tangled world how it is necessary to make a final and brave step without any thoughts of hesitation.
