Edward Mitchell Bannister was a Canadian painter, he was born in 1828. Native born to St Andrews, New Brunswick Canada. He lived until January 9th 1901. Bannister moved to New England in the United states in the 1840’s.
Bannister was well known in the artistic community of New England, but little known outside. He was a lesser known artist mostly because of racial prejudices Bannister was of African descent.
