Entombed beneath the ruins of an ancient city, a mystical orb awaits with an insatiable appetite for entrapping souls. A mysterious order has guarded it for over five hundred years, praying its ominous cravings remain suppressed. When the king of the Deviskari, an insular race shunned for their dark magic, discovers the tomb, he falls under the thrall of this sinister creation and then threatens to devour the souls of every living being in Morlanthea.

Deveryn never thought to return home after years of self-exile, that was, until Kehlyra, a woman who has loved him since childhood, pleads for help in stopping the infected king from waging war on the land. Apprehensive of confronting the wicked ways of his kinsmen, Deveryn reluctantly agrees and suddenly finds himself battling fierce creatures and malicious men, all in the pursuit of ridding the world of this hellish orb. But every choice has a consequence, and his decisions may end up condemning them all.
