Jim Duncan is a modern day lawman/gunfighter who works as a sheriff’s deputy in Dayton, Ohio.  Once upon a time, Dayton was an iconic representation of the American Middle Class.  Since the economic collapse of 2008, it has become a hub of criminal enterprises and the nation's leader for drug addiction (per capita) and drug overdoses (per capita).

While working with a DEA task force, Jim learns a Mexican Cartel intends to overrun the Dayton drug trade.  They've dispatched a team of mercenaries known as the "Black Plague" to eliminate all competition and barriers to their conquest (dominance).  Their leader is a sociopathic rogue Special Forces operator who has a taste for torturing women and children.  Jim witnessed his work first hand while serving as an infantry platoon commander (platoon leader) in Iraq.  For his blood thirsty tactics, Varney was imprisoned in Leavenworth.  Since his release, he has harbored a vendetta against the USA, American people in general and Jim Duncan.

To defend the City, Jim has to rely on the Sherriff's Department that is mired in small town politics, and an inexperienced, untested, poorly trained SWAT team preoccupied with impressing the local female population.  The City's freedom and Jim's survival are at stake.

This is the first tale in Jim Duncan's transformation from small town cop to urban warrior.
