This story was written for the anthology of my friend Joe Konrath, THESE GUNS FOR HIRE (Bleack House, 2007). As he wrote in the introduction, this is one of my first attempts with the hard-boiled genre and found it liberating. I was actually pushed into a whole new direction. It is also available in audio on the site www.Sniplits.com. Libby Fischer Hellmann is an author of novels know that you are doing with this narrative genre. The thriller published in 2010, SET, THE NIGHT ON FIRE, takes us back in Chicago in the sixties. The Hellmann has written two series of detective novels, one starring the detective Georgia Davis, while in the main character is Ellie Foreman, a manufacturer of professional video and investigator for the case. His collection of short stories, NICE GIRL DOES NOIR, was published in 2010. He also wrote a nice cozy style novel, THE LAST PAGE, and a novel kind of police procedural, TOXICITY. A BITTER VEIL, a literary thriller set in Iran's Revolution, will be published in April 2012.
