After the death of a loved one, M. J. Rex loses focus, drive, and all hope that she will ever be the person she has always dreamed of becoming. Forced to make a life-altering decision about whether to move on with her own life or die in a figurative sense, she stumbles through life one soap opera at a time. Depressed People Make Me Sleepy follows M. J. through her childhood from about the age of fifteen into adulthood and the beginnings of her career as a forensic psychologist. Her struggle to be the best at what she does, however, places her face-to-face with unresolved matters that if left unresolved could destroy her and the life she has built for herself.
