Trying to find himself to put the pieces of his life together, the main character, Curtis Raheem Miller, finds that he may be attracted to men. While trying to fit in, Curtis tries to hide his sexuality by being one of the boys, dating women but also exploring his sexuality with many different men. Curtis later marries and has children. He then finds it difficult to continue living a lie, especially when he starts losing friends and seeing his lifestyle for what it really was. After years of depression, promiscuity, coming close to death, and losing friends, Curtis comes to a real low point in his life.
