My name is Don Place. I served in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne Division; I served in combat, with a combat battalion. I was a teenager at the time, and this is about a group of incidents that happened in 1967 and 1968. The title “Days” comes from the number of days left in country, which we all kept track of and knew like our names.
I am a Vietnam veteran, father, college graduate and I have Combat Related PTSD. I have had a successful career, but have had to deal with all the aspects of PTSD, which no one knows the extent of the problems it causes, or how to treat it. My life has been upper middle class and the values, goals, and life experiences I learned in the 101st Airborne in Vietnam, have guided me through most tough times. I am very lucky and I realize that the worst things about Vietnam have brought out the best in me.
