A young Damien Borceau is on the verge of becoming a serial killer and joins the CIA with a secret agenda of murdering women while using the agency as a cover. He soon becomes entwined in a plot for revenge by his new employer, Doctor Charlene Brighton. Damien and other CIA recruits are augmented with cutting edge performance enhancing drugs to become killing machines but these young men become much more than mere assassins. The panorama of events stretch from Virginia to Venezuela, from cold war East Germany to Africa, from Afghanistan to the South Pacific and from vicious young men once bent on destroying life becoming instruments for saving it.

The book is set in nineteen seventy eight and Dr Charlene Brighton heads a classified research program investigating advanced drugs for use on clandestine missions. When her family is brutally assassinated she vows to strike back at those who killed them. This was a turbulent time for the agency with its budget stripped to feed the nation’s spy satellite program. In an effort to show relevance in the modern world the agency was willing and desperate to try new ideas and develop new techniques. Charlene gave them one.

The story melds the seventies time period along with accurate historical references, giving them the twist of alternate, covert explanations built up from the novel’s storyline. This is the first novel of the Brighid series which follows Damien’s exploits in cold-war era CIA intrigue. It covers their initial missions and introduces a number of bitter enemies who have the resources and technology to end the Brighid program and kill everyone on it.
