The mystery of consciousness!

Is it really so mysterious, when analysed step by step?

I believe the concept of consciousness produced from neural activity, is no more complicated than a a drop of water being produced from a mass of Hydrogen and Oxygen, or a star being produced from a mass of its elements. With a relevant interaction of components, the result is a combination which is greater than the sum of its parts.

Consciousness involves thinking, comprehension, perception, awareness, etc., but what is the cause and effect of these processes, and how do they interact?

I’ll go through the various elements involved in consciousness, and explain how common knowledge of aspects of mental processes, add up, with the correct combination, to produce a complex result that we describe as “consciousness”.

So, if 1 of sciences greatest “mysteries” can be explained, then what difference will it make?

If consciousness is directly correlated with intelligence, and if the cause between one to the other can be understood, perhaps we can learn to apply both more effectively, and make an improvement on decision making in general. If there’s one general concept, with the potential to make an improving, overarching influence on outcome on this planet, perhaps, it is Consciousness.
