Since she ended her unhappy marriage, Shanice has been spending her free evenings with sexy new boyfriend Brannon.
He's everything she never thought she'd have in a man - ambitious, hot and caring too. But there's a catch. She didn't mention her young son when they first got together and now she doesn't know how to tell him.
He begins to suspect before she has a chance to come clean and she's forced into a confession that makes him re-evaluate their relationship.
Will he be able to accept the secret she's been keeping from him and trust her enough to share what he's been too afraid to mention?
This short story is roughly 10,000 words long and is not intended for readers under the age of eighteen.
EXCERPT
I’d been on the verge of telling him. I really had. The words I’d prepared had been floating around inside my head all day. I’d psyched myself up and had a glass of dutch courage. But then he’d interrupted me with the news about his job and my adrenaline rush started to fade.
But I’d had a second chance – he asked me what I’d been about to say. So why the hell didn’t I just spit it out?
I have no idea. Actually, that’s not true. It’s because I’m a great big coward.
I looked at him sitting there across the table from me and thought about what would happen if I opened my mouth. That rugged smile would melt off his face and his grey eyes would turn cold. And right then, I realised this might be my only chance to go to bed with this kind, sexy, confident man. If I waited one more day to make my confession, I’d at least have a night to remember him by.
So I did something I’d never done before and attempted to seduce him. I hope I managed to hide how shocked I was that it worked.
He mentioned taking our wine through to the bedroom, so I picked up my glass and the blood rushed to my head as I stood up. Jesus. I was more nervous than my first ever time. But if I hesitated it might never happen.
He came around the table and kissed all my doubts away. My eyes fell closed. He wrapped me in his arms and I tasted the need in him. To feel him need me like that… Well, it stole the breath out of my lungs.
When the kiss was over, he took my hand and led me upstairs to his room.
