Our lawns take a beating during the cold winter months, especially in New England. Without attention, the deterioration of the lawn continues on in the spring. After several seasons, the lawn begins to get sparse, patches of dirt appear and weeds start overtaking the grass. The solution is to overseed, to spread new grass seed over the existing tired and sparse blades of grass. The result is a thick and revitalized lawn. In a similar fashion, many historic churches across America, especially in New England, are deteriorating because the seed of the gospel is not being preached. The way forward is to "Overseed," to recruit and equip godly pastors to serve in these pulpits and to once again sow the seed of the gospel in these churches. Overseeding a church begins with wise godly leadership from a gospel centric pastor. Nehemiah gives us a great example and leadership principles of how to lead a local community through the difficult process of renewal to once again become a thriving community.
