People who suffer panic attacks are not thinking about anything except how scared they are that something bad is going to happen. They are not pretending. The feelings they are going through are very real for them.

They may feel it’s difficult to catch their breath. They may break out into a cold sweat. They may feel shaky or numb, dizzy and faint. They may feel their heart pounding fast or their chest tighten mimicking a heart attack.

These feelings will grip them, all at once or just several at one time. But, the sensation will hit them without warning. They will be paralyzed, frozen by their own fear. They will literally be unable to physically move and think clearly.

Extreme anxiety is a mental disorder. It affects the person’s thought processes and influences his physical, mental and emotional actions. It incapacitates the person, making him unable to live or work normally.

Panic attacks are symptoms of anxiety disorders. The panic symptoms will not easily go away. To stop the attacks, they will need to be dealt with and controlled.

You can help yourself.  If it’s someone else, you can help them.  There are ways that you can decrease the chance of an onset of a panic attack. You can learn how to deal with them better.

You will need to learn to recognize the symptoms.  You will have to understand what treatment and support is available out there.

Therapy is a time consuming process and improvement will be gradual. Take it easy. Don’t be too hard on yourself and your disorder. In time, you will understand how to deal with your worries and fears and stop them from controlling your life.
