Mark Bowman's life changes overnight when his family moves from Barrio Echo Park to segregated Glendale, California. He becomes not just a normal teenager but well known and popular largely due to his job which gives him the ability to supply every possible party favor coveted by teenagers. In the summer '66 he revisits Houston alone, a trip that ends in violence and he finds you can't go back. He returns to Glendale where he encounters his first lover. His first lovemaking is on the beach at Malibu and Malibu becomes his nickname. The name however was given him not by his girlfriend, but by a tawny eyed married woman four years his senior whose endless gaze traps him, shakes him to his soul. His first sight of her takes his breath away and over the next two years, even while dating his first love, a hidden electric attraction grows to the point of combustion between Malibu and the older woman; and an inevitable surrender to a forbidden lust.
