They deal with deadlines and live shots, little guys and big shots, and callers who say the anchors are too sexy or not sexy enough. The Channel 3 news team thrives on stress. Or do they? Now they must dodge downsizing, furloughs, and corporate decisions and still get the news on the air. Broken News is the fictional account of an Atlanta newsroom facing financial crisis, told through the eyes of the people who cover the news every day. Every time Corporate makes a cut or comes up with a gimmick, these folks are forced to deal with it, and still go live for the top of the 5:00 newscast. Daria and Peter are co-anchors with very different agendas. Peter is planning ways to save the news department while Daria is a diva, concerned with nothing but Daria. Jenny back-times her newscasts, and her life, in 15-second increments. As a producer, she’s obsessed with perfection on deadline. She wears so many hats (writer/confessor/printer repairer) that her friends call her Slash. Alannah and Tony grind out their daily reporter and photographer assignments with light banter but heavy hearts. She longs for an Emmy. He wants to head the fashion police. They keep each other sane as their work world becomes more and more crazy. This fast and fun work of fiction is wrapped in reality as traditional news competes for survival among webcasts, blogs, and tweets.
