In the past, missionaries who worked in overseas environments had to use more complex approaches to witnessing than the average Christian in America. Why? Because they had to cross a belief bridge that American Christians didn’t have to cross. Unfortunately, in contemporary times, that has all changed.
In the past, all we needed was to share the gospel message and offer people the opportunity to cross the gospel bridge. In many cases, it is now necessary to build a second bridge, a worldview bridge, to even get people to the gospel bridge.
Religiously, we are a much more diverse nation than we used to be. It is now almost impossible to be effective sharing the gospel by exclusively using traditional approaches. We must now expand our skill set and learn to use the missionary’s tool kit.
