We first met Nicholas in 'Conception'. In that short story, his life was about to fundamentally change. In 'The Wedding', he has been informed he will marry in two weeks' time and will meet his bride, whose name he does not know, thirty minutes before the ceremony.

These stories provide a brief glimpse into two very different, future societies, which have alternative approaches to procreation and parenting.
