Most of these uncomplicated but carefully constructed poems are about a city near the sea, its balconies, windows, people, birds, sky, flowers, mornings, but sometimes a poem goes elsewhere, describes the view from an airplane, or a trip into the desert, or one person, or looks back to remember.

Although there are concerns about work, money and family and sometimes, especially in the old days, about a woman's reputation, the stories are essentially about love. Place is important, whether it's a house, a shop, a cabin, a diner, a certain apartment, the wedding hotel, a sewing room, a dirt path, a gravel road or a garden. A car, train or bicycle sometimes plays a part.
