The fact that for equal work equally well performed by a man and by a woman, it is ordained that the woman on the ground of her sex alone shall receive a less recompense, is the nearest approach to a wilful and unqualified "wrong" in the whole relation of woman to society today. According to Wikipedia: "Olive Schreiner (24 March 1855 - December 11, 1920), was a South African author, pacifist and political activist. She is best known for her novel The Story of an African Farm, which has been acclaimed for the manner it tackled the issues of its day, ranging from agnosticism to the treatment of women."

This slim 1893 volume collects three short stories by Schreiner:  "Dream Life and Real Life: A Little African Story," "The Woman's Rose," to which "The Policy in Favour of Protection—" is added, in which Schreiner advocates for the strength and independence of women.

Published in 1911, this penetrating analysis of gender inequality is also a full-throated demand for equal treatment of the sexes and the rights of women.  As remarkable as the book itself is the fact that Schreiner reconstructed it from memory after all her notes were lost in a fire.

Published in 1890, this remarkable collection of dreams is notable for its surreal, poetic intensity.  Some of the dreams are allegorical, while others have a wild quality to them, as if they flowed directly from the author's unconscious onto the page.  Includes what is perhaps Schreiner's best-known short piece, "A Dream of Wild Bees."

The narrative is complex, with fluid chronology and narrative point of view. The novel was a bestseller when it was first published, though it was also controversial, dealing with themes of feminism, pre-marital sex, free thought and transvestitism.
