Star Trek comics from Gold key Comics debuted in 1967, the same year the original television series premiered, and continued on an irregular serial schedule until 1979. (News print paperback collections dubbed The Enterprise Logs were also offered in the 1970s). The comics feature the original Enterprise crew (Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Scotty et al) in adventures available nowhere else.

Volume 3 carries on from where the second volume of Checker's series left off, reprinting issues 17 through 25 of the original Star Trek comics from Gold Key.
