Through the use of magic realism and memorable characters, Darian Land examines the Judeo-Christian experience in his unique novel, Bluebonnets for Gargoyles. When four wicked gargoyles take over the bodies of Brazilian evangelicals, they travel to Dallas, Texas, and set up an innocent-looking cookie company as a front for their foul deeds. But being in the middle of the Bible Belt proves a challenge, and their evil works come undone when illuminations and revelations take place. The leader of the group, a dubious little "old lady" named Lucy Furr, wishes nothing less than the total fall of mankind. But one of Lucy's minions, a gargoyle named Innocencia, meets a Texas gargoyle and learns that their kind are meant to repel evil, not create it. Innocencia convinces the other two gargoyles to join her in the quest to defeat Lucy Furr, and it's not long before a few helpful humans get caught up in the mix. Lucy Furr isn't easy to stop, though, and an epic battle between good and evil ensues. An unusual twist on humankind's relations.
