“Hop on board for a hard-edged debut that's fully loaded with car chases (particularly Mustangs), war veterans, old grudges, and abundant greed. A choppy start belies a well-executed plotline enhanced by the atmospheric Palmetto State setting.” – Library Journal (on Southern Heat)
“This second case for Brack is marked by a challenging mystery, quirky characters, and nonstop action.” ―Kirkus Reviews (on Burning Heat)
“Solid, well-written-and full of heart--Burnsworth nails the voice of new southern noir. This talented debut author will win you over with his engaging and multi-faceted hero--then keep you turning pages with his suspense, southern-voiced wit and sharp insight into the not so pleasant side of a fascinating city. - Hank Phillippi Ryan- Anthony, Agatha, MAcavity and Mary Higgins Clark Award winning author (on Southern Heat)
“David Burnsworth’s debut novel, Southern Heat, has everything a good mystery needs—intrigue, action, and a hero just flawed enough to be endearing.” - Jade Terrell (on Southern Heat)
“Gripping, gritty, and authentic. Southern Heat pulled me in from page one and was impossible to put down. In Brack Pelton, Burnsworth introduces a jaded yet empathetic character I hope to visit again and again. - Susan M. Boyer - Agatha Award winning author of Lowcountry Boil and Lowcountry Bombshell (on Southern Heat)
“What could be more fun than sitting down with a David Burnsworth novel about Brack Pelton and his "colorful" life in Charleston?…Burnsworth is outstanding as he brings out the heat, the smells, the colors, and the history of Charleston during Pelton's mission to bring the killer(s) to justice. Burning Heat is over much too soon, and leaves one eager for the next Burnsworth book.” - John Carenen, author of the Thomas O'Shea Mysteries Signs of Struggle and A Far Gone Night (on Burning Heat)
“If you have always suspected that there is more to Charleston than quaint southern charm and ghost stories, then David Burnsworth's noir series, featuring ex-soldier, tiki bar owner, and part time beach bum, Brack Pelton may just be the antidote to a surfeit of sweet tea…Burnsworth brings to the low country the same unflinching eye that James Lee Burke turns to the bayou, or Ace Atkins focuses on the fictional Tibbehah County. There's fast cars, wild women, and lots of gunplay, all tempered by Brack's unrelenting search for truth and support for the lost souls who aren't making it in the New South.” - Michael Sears (on Burning Heat)
A man walks into a bar, and dies. It isn’t just any bar, it’s the Pirate’s Cove located on the Isle of Palms, a barrier island just north of the Charleston, South Carolina harbor. Ex-Marine Brack Pelton tries to stop the murder and almost dies himself. The victim, Skip Romeo, has a shady past and some interesting friends. The friend he’d planned on meeting at the bar before he got shot was lowcountry Private Investigator Blu Carraway.
Brack Pelton hates that someone shot up his bar and Blu Carraway hates that someone gunned down his friend. Both want revenge and justice. And both tend to leave a lot of collateral damage in their wake. Their team-up is inevitable. Individually, they’re each a force to be reckoned with. Together, they’re like an atomic bomb blast at ground zero. Pelton and Carraway and Charleston will never be the same.

After a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee and fifteen years in the corporate world, he made the decision to write a novel. Big City Heat is his third mystery. Having lived in Charleston on Sullivan's Island for five years, the setting was a foregone conclusion. He and his wife along with their dog call South Carolina home.
