A small forgotten village in the valleys of the Grampian Mountains, Scotland is harbouring something that is hidden to the outside world. The head master of a boarding school is made the mayor and takes control of the village. He has all the inhabitants under his control, apart from one. Making the necessary plans to fill this gaping hole of his, he contacts Mary Cameron, a newly married woman with a history she knows nothing of.
Mary jumps at the chance of starting her own business, even in a place she knows nothing about. Dragging her husband, Iain, to the remote village of Kirkfale, Mary sets up shop with premises, resources and everything she needs. A rousing party and customers galore.
Then, the unthinkable happens. A fire erupts throughout her store and a body is found by the fire brigade. Iain is distraught.
As he fights to come to terms with the loss, a secret friend points him towards some hidden secrets that only Iain can unveil, secrets that show all is not lost, that there is a plan in motion.
Can Iain decipher that plan and save his soul mate or will he succumb to the pain and anguish thrust upon him? Will he ever see Mary again?
