Bitter Legacy (the final instalment in The Samurai Revival Trilogy)

As Nyunt, Tessa's adopted Burmese daughter, approaches adulthood she finally decides to take up the sword. Tessa patiently tutors the increasingly headstrong girl.

But one day, against Tessa's advice, Nyunt decides to go back to Burma to trace her family; her new boyfriend goes with her. By the time she returns to London, she is convinced that Tessa killed her father. A deep rift forms between them and Nyunt walks out. Tessa is devastated and cannot accept that she killed Nyunt's father. So, despite the danger, she travels to Burma herself.

She manages to uncover the truth, but finds she has been lured into a trap. She is captured and cruelly imprisoned, losing her precious sword. However, despite being drugged and tortured close to death, she refuses to abandon hope and plots her escape.

Finally free, Tessa pursues her captors relentlessly determined to recover her weapon while struggling to overcome her harsh treatment in captivity. Her friends begin to doubt her reliability and her very existence is in jeopardy as Japan itself comes under threat…
