Benito's Gambit

In this sequel to Ronald Koegler’s Stargazer novel, psychiatrist Donald Carter travels to Sicily, where Benito Desimone persuades Don to campaign for the U.S. Senate, promising financial backing. At first dubious, Don returns to California, barely escaping an assassination form a stargazer-paid hit man, then begins an uphill battle for a Senate seat. Set in 1985-1986 as the Iran-Contra scandal was developing, the newspapers unearthed Benito’s Mafioso past, seeming to dash Don’s Senate hopes, and his marriage is on the skids. But eventually his love life flourishes in ways he could not have imagined.
